There are six crew specialisations:
Command: Diplomacy, trading and crew support.Download

Operations: Long and short range scanning, and transport of loot
Engineering: Repair of ship’s systems
Tactical: Ship’s weapons and shields
Medical: Healing of physical and viral ailments
Piloting: Long range piloting and combat manuevering
Tactical and Piloting are the most demanding tasks, with Operations and Engineering being less demanding. Command and Medical are the least demanding roles and can be done by the same person if your party is short of members.
It is advisable that your party discuss which specialisation they would like to be responsible for. Players with greater familiarity with the game can take on more roles, or even all of them.
The game is still in beta, but quite playable.
